European Capital of Democracy (ECoD) is a European initiative that aims to promote citizen debate and participation in contemporary democracy. In January 2023, Barcelona was elected as the European Capital of Democracy for a period extending from September 2023 to October 2024. Through a network of member cities of the Council of Europe, the initiative seeks to showcase successful experiences and promote participatory and inclusive democracy.
